Retina
A retinal exam may be recommended if any potential retinal abnormalities were detected during a general eye exam, or for patients at a higher risk of developing retinal conditions such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachments and more.
A retinal exam involves dilating the pupils and looking into the eyes with a bright light and a special microscope to visualize the retina, optic nerve and blood vessels that are at the back of the eye. The doctor will also perform a series of diagnostic procedures to evaluate the retina for any sign of disease or abnormality.
